It all began as a passion to mobilize my mates in secondary school to accompany me share Gospel tracts during inter school sporting games.
Today, what started as a passion is now a ministry (Focus Higher International) with the vision of raising and building the youth with the mind of Christ and making them missionaries to their homes, communities, nations and beyond. Mobilizing for the unreached, at the start of this ministry, was principally about advocating for people to join me in the sharing of the Gospel. Sixteen (16) years down the journey, I have come to realize that mobilizing for missions involved more than just advocating. It includes Creating Awareness of Missions, Recruiting of Missionaries, Raising support, Gathering Resources and Soliciting for prayers.
According to GlobalCast Resources, Mobilize simply means to put into motion. God, who put the earth into motion through creation and gave His only son to redeem us, continues to be the greatest mobilizer. Since 2017, God put me into motion to mobilize the youth for the unreached, specifically the Nanumba and the Wala people group. The journey has so far taught me three lessons that I would like to share with you.
1. Trust God
Mobilizing for the unreached is a collaborative work between God and us. In order for you to avail yourself for God to use to mobilize the unreached, I have learnt that you have to trust Him. Trust God for His leading even if it doesn’t make sense to you. Trust God to provide every resource for the journey even when you have to start the journey with nothing. Trust God to protect you and your family in the midst of fear, uncertainty and persecution.
Trust God to connect you to the right partners and mentors at the right time. It’s all about trusting God. Trusting God is simply believing that He who has called you is faithful and will always be with you. In my journey so far, these two bible verses, Prov. 3:5-6 and Psalm 56:3-4 have been an anchor in trusting God.
2. Engage Others
The entire mobilization work is about engaging others in what the Lord is doing. Engage others to pray for the unreached and missionaries, engage others to financially support and engage others to go to the missions field. It is all about engaging others. Engage everyone the Lord connects to you. Engage others with different kinds of skills, talents and callings.
I have learnt that for mobilization to be successful you have to engage others by sharing with them the vision God has laid on your heart. In sharing vision, you build a strong relationship with others and together you fulfil the Great Commission.
3. Learn from every situation
The journey of mobilization is an adventurous one of ups and downs. There are moments of despair, disappointment, depression, discouragement and distress. Likewise, there comes moments of excitement, encouragement, enthusiasm, empowerment and enlightenment. I have chosen to learn something new in every situation. It’s easier learning from good situations than dark moments when you cannot see the end of the tunnel.
Notwithstanding, I have silently asked the Holy Spirit to teach me lessons from my moments of pain and grief. In the days of sunshine, I take a deep breath to reflect on lessons to share with others. Mobilization can sometimes be tiring and disappointing but I have made a decision to learn from whatever happens. I have learnt from people who promised to go or give but failed to do so as well as those who fulfilled their promises. For those who failed to fulfil their promises, I learnt to trust God. For those who fulfilled their promises, I have learnt that God enables us to fulfil promises.
Like Apostle Paul, I have learnt how to abase, and how to abound because God gives me strength in all things. There is more to learn from this journey of mobilizing for the unreached. We (FHI) moved from sending one (1) missionary to four (4) missionaries serving among the Nanumba people group within two years. These are the three lessons I have learnt so far.
I do not know what the future holds for a tent minister mobilizer but I will continue trusting God, engaging others and learning from every situation. In all, it’s my prayer that God, the Mobilizer of mobilizers, will put our spirit, soul, and body in constant communion with the triune God to enable us mobilize for the unreached nations in the fulfilment of the Great Commission.
