For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. Titus 2:11 (NLT)
If you have ever lived in Accra or visited Accra, you would have encountered immigrants from our neighbouring countries like Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso begging for alms. In most situations, many of these immigrants are children who stand on the streets begging for money from either a driver, passenger, or pedestrian.
Depending on the position of your heart, the adorableness of these street children could have touched your heart to move with compassion to give them some money, or the persuasion of their begging could have created a nuisance.
In any of these experiences, we easily forget that these street children are also people Jesus Christ died for to save them. During the just-ended Easter Celebration, FHI’s targeted these street children with our love outreach to the needy, titled Let’s Break Bread. The initial outreach survey revealed a language barrier and difficulty in the number of children, but that didn’t stop us. The Ministry adopted Jesus’s film clips in Hausa and other languages understood by these children.
At noon on Easter Sunday, twenty members of the FHI missions team gathered over sixty street children, mainly immigrants from Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with them in word and deeds of love through the sharing of food, drinks, water, slightly used clothing, and toys. The team members interacted with them through an interpreter who happened to be one of those immigrants who understood Twi.
To the glory of God, everyone heard the gospel and made a prayer to God for salvation. Among the children were six young adults who raised their hands to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour.
We are grateful to God for the opportunity to reach out to these children with the gospel.
Thanks very much to all FHI partners, associates and team members for the support and God richly bless you all.
