FINISHING THE TASK OF WORLD EVANGELISM

At the just ended annual disciple makers Major retreat organized by Christlike Disciplemakers Movement Bible College, Apostle JFK Mensah challenged all disciple makers including FHI missionaries that receivers of the Gospel must become senders to finish the task of world evangelism. He emphasized that it is over two thousand years since Jesus gave us the mandate to go and make disciples but the work is still not done.

He passionately questioned; Is it that the work cannot be finished? Or there is no work at all to be done? Or the “average Christian” have no part to play? The simple answer to all these questions is No.

Finishing the task of world evangelism is ensuring that all people must hear the Gospel (Matt. 24:14).

And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.(NLT)

Our Lord Jesus will not give us a task that He knows we cannot accomplish. He also made available the Holy Spirt to complete this work ( Acts 1:8). When all hands come on board, this work would be finished in a little time.

The current status of world evangelism according to Joshua Project states that there are 7.8 billion people on the earth. 2.5 billion which is 32% of the world population identify to be Christians, 3.12 billion which is 40% have heard and not responded to the gospel and 2.18 billion which is 28% of the world population have not heard the gospel at all.

The work left for us to do is the 28%. Joshua Project further explains that the unreached people groups are 7400 out of 17400 people groups. We cannot talk about the global missions trends without mentioning the great shift. This statement, ” From the west to the rest”, no longer stands. That is, in the 1800’s and 1900’s, this statement was true but the narrative has changed in the current century. As at 2020, 23% of all Christians were in Europe and North America and 77% for Christians in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

This is the great shift because in the 1800’s 99% of the Christians came from Europe and North America. This must be a wake up call for all Christians in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

We must equip the average believer to Go, pray, mobilize, give their financial support and any other support to finish the work.

I can boldly say: Every receiver of the Gospel is now a sender of the Gospel to the unreached, neglected and forgotten people of the world.
