Do the work of an Evangelist

It is certain that a lot of people will look back at 2020 and see a year filled with disappointment, destruction of human lives, devastation of economic structures and disruption of health systems.

But within that same period, God was doing some amazing works among the nations through the activities of churches and missions agencies of which FHI was not exempted.

God used our missionaries to do amazing works among the Nanumbas in the Northern Region of Ghana.

A reflection on the seasons and times shows clearly that we are in the last days awaiting the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and the response of the church is crucial.

Apostle Paul’s last words to his disciple, Timothy, admonishes us on what to do in these perilous times.

But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
2 Timothy 4:5

The word “Evangelist” used in the anchor text (2 Timothy 4:5) comes from the Greek ‘euaggelizo’ meaning a bearer of good tidings. The word connotes someone with a vocational calling from God to announce the Good News or Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In this year 2021, FHI wants to encourage all and sundry in the body of Christ to do the work of an Evangelist as we await the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is our firm believe that we need all hands on deck for the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

In this year, you have to intentionally decide that you’re going to be an announcer of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Irrespective of your calling or career, I want to give you three steps to do the work of an Evangelist.

  • Connect with God and People:
If you want to do the work of an Evangelist, then you will have to first learn how to connect with God and people. Get closer to God through your daily prayers and regular bible study. Get to know people by name, be present at social gatherings, show love and care to people, always offer a helping hand to people and be interested in people. The Gospel is centered on winning people. You can announce the Good News when you get connection with God and people.

In these years of doing the work of an Evangelist, be intimate with God and connect with people.

  • Communicate the Gospel: Share the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ in words and in the demonstration of unconditional love. Tell others that God loves them but it is their sins that have separated Him from them.
If they, however, repent of their sins and believe in Jesus, their sins will be forgiven and they will have eternal life.
The content of what you are sharing should be clear and presented in the context of scripture. Be consistent and confident of the Gospel. Adopt creativity and critical thinking in communicating the Gospel to diverse groups of people.
Remember, the credibility of the message to others is your lifestyle.

  • Convert others to the Christian faith through the power of the Holy Spirit.

It is God who converts the hearts of people unto repentance and total believe in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Our responsibility is to lead others to Him. In this year, encourage people to make the decision to entrust their lives in the hands of Jesus. Ask people if they want to pray with you to receive Jesus.

Follow the above three steps and let us win more souls for Christ in the year 2021. It is my fervent prayer that you will allow the Holy Spirit to use you to do the work of an Evangelist. Receive God’s grace, wisdom and strength for the year.
Happy New Year!
